THE ART OF BEING IN THE PRESENT MOMENT
Every moment of your life you have choices. You choose what you want to wear. You choose to follow directions or not, etc.
Once you realize that you are at choice and you take responsibility for your life and actions, then you can change your life.
There’s an old Zen story. The master is getting ready to leave this life and the monks are with him, waiting for his final teaching and words of wisdom. The master had always been happy in his life. One of the monks ask him about his secret for being constantly happy. He answered “it’s very simple. When I wake up in the morning I realize I can choose to be happy or miserable. I choose to be happy.”
The ego feeds off drama and controls the mind. It loves the stories and their winding paths. When you sit quietly for a moment the mind chatters even more and creates more stress, anxiety, concern and suffering.
What can you do to change the situation? How can you find inner peace and connect with divine guidance?
You learn to be present, to live in the now. How can you do this? By being aware. Meditation can teach you breath awareness by focusing on the inhalation and exhalation. When your mind wanders you bring your attention back to the breath.
Learning Yoga, Tai Chi or Chi Gong helps you stay in the present.
Pay attention to the silence which is the unmanifested. If you pay attention to the silence without, stillness appears within you. It increases the more you practice this, and as you do this you are fully in the present moment.
When things come up that irritate or disturb you, consciously take in a deep breath and bring your attention to your body. Be aware of your body, at that moment. Feel your breath filling every cell of your body. Be aware of the feelings – just acknowledge them and they will disappear.
It takes practice to be in the present moment. It takes a constant choice. Remember the past is the past. The future just represents possibilities. Wake up and choose to be happy, content. Make your decisions from your understanding of things in this moment in your life. Be still and listen to your inner guidance, and things will unfold naturally without effort, and in perfect time. Many people are receiving grace at this time in history and as they awaken they are living in full awareness. They are learning how to be consistently in the flow of life. They transmute negativity instantly just by being aware of it and allowing it to dissolve.
They are learning to surrender, which is an inner phenomena. You still take action and change the situation. It is not the overall situation that you need to accept when you surrender, just the tiny segments we call the present, the now. When you’re in a difficult situation recognize what you want to get out of it. Then bring your attention to the present moment without labeling it. Just accept the moment as it is. There is no judgment in the now, so there is no resistance or emotional negativity. You then take the necessary action to get out of the difficult situation in a positive way. Negative action arises out of despair, frustration, and anger. You learn to surrender by not labeling the present moment as bad, difficult or irritating.
Practice being in the present by using some of these suggestions.
During your day take a few minutes throughout the day to be fully aware of the moment. As you practice this the moments will be longer. You will experience inner peace, stillness and joy.
